The background to Wellspring:
The Order of Jacob’s Well was inaugurated in 1997 by its Patron, Rowan Williams (who is now
the Archbishop of Canterbury), with the remit to seek out, train and encourage those called to the healing ministry of the Church. Particularly in the last two years the Order has seen many miracles of healing, both at its healing centre in Cwmbran and at the various "Wells", or small healing groups, around the UK.
This fast growing and non-denominational Order of Healing and Wholeness is led by the Revd. Mike Endicott. Although based in South Wales, it also works throughout the UK as well as Africa and the USA. The Order holds regular 3—4 day ministry training schools at Llangasty, in the beautiful Brecon Beacons, together with teaching days in various locations in England and Wales. Both clergy and lay people are able to become licensed into the Order via an extended period of training and study, thus enabling them to bring the Ministry of Healing back to their own communities.
In June 2004 a small group of those who had previously attended the ministry training school of the Order, together with a licensed minister of the Order, met to discuss the possibility of holding healing services in the Henley area. During this meeting they were blessed with a clear way forward and, somewhat to their surprise, found themselves asked by the Rev. Mike Endicott to form a “Well”. Following this, the title “Wellspring” was given and confirmed to them, together with a clear vision to go out, preach the good news of the Kingdom of Heaven and heal the sick!
Our ministry has now grown to cover both the Henley and Reading areas. Recently we felt that the original small band of those available to minister (usually about six or seven) was insufficient for the growing workload. This was offered in prayer to the Lord, and shortly afterwards we were joined by several others who wish to help in this way. - Isn’t God good! - We are continually amazed by the confidence and love the Lord gives us to do this work and to “go out” - not always an easy thing to do.
Our work takes us out into church buildings of any denomination and then further out into the community and people’s homes. We feel touched by the aching compassion of Jesus Christ for His needy ones—those in pain or diseased, those hurting in body, mind or spirit. We believe that Jesus longs for us to minister to those in need of healing and wholeness, and to bring them His peace and healing love. He has given us the tools, His power and authority, and shown us how to do it, see Mark 11 v22-26. There is no excuse, therefore, not to do His work and will.
Our main services are the beautiful and gentle Celtic Healing Service, and the more outgoing Christ The Healer service which incorporates the laying on of hands. Our philosophy is based on looking at how Jesus healed, how he commanded his disciples to "go out, heal the sick and tell them that the Kingdom of God has come near to them!
